The per-seat range comes from the published non-member prices of live half-day to one-day AI courses from IoD Ireland, the Institute of Public Administration and AI Ireland on 22 September 2026. Member rates can be lower. Most of those prices do not say whether VAT is included.

Where is the break-even between per seat and flat rate?

At the median of €450 a head, five people cost €2,250, which is the price of our half day for up to 25 people. At ten people the flat rate works out at €225 a head. Below five people, an open course is cheaper.

Staff time is the bigger cost and no price list includes it. Twenty people in a half-day session is about seventy working hours. That is a reason to make the session count, and a reason to be wary of a one-hour module that everyone clicks through and nobody remembers.

Does the law say how much you have to spend?

No. Article 4 asks providers and deployers to take measures to support the AI literacy of their staff, taking into account their knowledge and experience and the context the systems are used in. It names no budget, no format and no number of hours. The Commission's Q&A, which is guidance, says "no strict requirements or mandatory trainings are imposed" and that there is no need for a certificate.

Is there funding for AI training in Ireland?

Possibly. Skillnet Ireland's Upskill SME Training Grant, listed on the Government's National Enterprise Hub, helps SMEs reclaim salary costs associated with staff training in AI skills. The listing says you may be eligible if you are an SME in the Republic of Ireland with between 2 and 250 employees, at least 12 months in operation and registered with the Companies Registration Office. If you are part of a wider group, the parent's headcount may count against you.

The listing does not publish the rate or say which trainers qualify. Ask Skillnet both questions before you put a figure in a budget. The Commission's Q&A also points SMEs to the European Digital Innovation Hubs, many of which run AI training.

What should the price include?

This is our view. A fair price for calibrated training covers three things beyond the session: a look at your AI tool inventory beforehand, content adjusted to your roles, and a written record afterwards of what was covered, who attended and why that depth suited them. If a quote arrives before anyone has asked what tools you use, you are buying a library course at a live-session price.

When you might not need to pay anyone

A ten-person office that uses one general-purpose chatbot can do a reasonable job for nothing. Use the free resources the Commission lists, write a one-page note on what must never go into the tool, walk everyone through it for an hour, and keep a dated record. Paid training makes sense when you have several roles using different tools, or tools that screen, score or rank people.

Our own prices and the working behind the comparison are in the pricing section.
